Questions owners ask before a session

These are the questions HVAC owners ask most often before working with Ali. If yours isn't here, send it; the answer will be in writing.

Short answers to the practical questions come first, in the list above. Below are the longer explanations owners usually want before they commit time and money to a session with Ali.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly do I get from a session?

A working conversation with Ali about one business decision, using your numbers, followed by a written summary of the decisions made, the reasoning and the next steps in order. The scope is agreed in writing beforehand.

How much does a session cost?

Each session is quoted in writing before you agree to it, based on the topic and preparation involved. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and HVAC owners add GST/HST for their province (GST and QST in Quebec).

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. Each session is quoted and agreed on its own. If you later choose an HVAC.Agency marketing plan, it comes with a 7-day free trial and no lock-in, and its terms are set out in writing.

Are sessions held in person?

Yes. Sessions are available in person or online by video call, as well as by phone, so owners anywhere in Canada can take part. The format you choose is confirmed in the written quote.

We tried an agency before and got nothing for the money. Why is this different?

A session isn't an agency retainer. It's an independent look at your pricing, capacity and spending before anyone runs another campaign. Many owners bring their old agency reports so Ali can show what was and wasn't measured.

Will you keep my numbers private?

Yes. Ali doesn't share one owner's figures with another, and your company won't be named anywhere without your permission.

If I hire HVAC.Agency later, who owns the website and accounts?

Ownership terms are written into the HVAC.Agency proposal. Ali's advice to every owner is the same: make sure the company owns its domain, website, ad accounts and Google Business Profile, whoever manages them.

Can you promise results?

No. Anyone who promises a set number of leads or revenue is guessing. A session gives you clearer decisions and a way to measure them; results depend on carrying the plan out.

How soon will I see a difference?

Pricing changes show up in your margins within a month or two. Agreement programs and hiring take a quarter or more. Marketing depends on the channel. Each session sets checkpoints so you're not left wondering.

Do you give technical, safety or code advice?

No. HVACConsultant.ca is business and marketing consulting, not engineering, mechanical design, inspection or code-compliance services. Technical and safety questions belong with licensed trades and your provincial safety authority.

Do you give legal, tax or accounting advice?

No. When a session touches contracts, tax or a sale structure, Ali will tell you which professional to involve.

How small is too small for a session?

If you're a solo operator deciding whether to hire, a session can still help. Below that, the guides on this site may cover what you need for now.

How quickly will Ali reply?

We usually reply within one business day. Ali works Mon–Fri 9–6 Pacific, so a message sent late on a Friday is normally answered the next week.

Cost, quotes and contracts

The short answer: you get a written quote first, and you don't pay for anything you haven't agreed to. Ali quotes each session separately because preparation varies a lot. A first conversation about exit planning needs less groundwork than a full review of a year's invoices.

There's no retainer and no series to sign up for. If you want ongoing marketing work afterwards, HVAC.Agency's plans are published on the pricing page, with a 7-day free trial, no credit card and no lock-in. Choosing a session never commits you to a plan.

"We've been burned by an agency before"

That's one of the most common reasons owners get in touch. The usual story: a monthly bill, a report full of impressions and clicks, and no clear link to booked jobs. A session doesn't defend or attack the old agency. It asks what you were paying for, what was measured, and what should have been.

Bring the old reports and invoices if you have them. Ali will help you work out what a fair test of any provider looks like, and how to set it up so the next one is judged on booked revenue. The marketing budget session is built for exactly this.

Ownership of your website and accounts

Ali's view is simple: the company should own its domain, website, phone numbers, ad accounts and Google Business Profile, whoever looks after them day to day. Ownership protects you if you change providers, and it matters a great deal if you ever sell, which the exit-thinking session covers.

If you're working with a provider now, check who is listed as the owner on each account. If it's the agency or a former employee, that's worth fixing this month.

Results and reporting

Sessions produce decisions, and decisions are measured in your own books. Ali will suggest which numbers to watch and when, but he won't send you a monthly report claiming credit for your work. The real HVAC results on the results page show what measured work can produce; they aren't a promise for your company.

Format and preparation

Sessions run in person or by video call, which is what makes it practical for an owner in Moncton or Prince George to work with Ali from Vancouver. The written quote confirms the format, what to send ahead of time and roughly how long the session will run.

Preparation is the part owners underestimate. A session built on real invoices, real member counts and real marketing spend is far more useful than one built on impressions. The owner numbers sheet lists what to gather, and most owners can pull it together in an evening or two.

After the session

You receive a written summary: the decisions made, the reasoning behind each one and the next steps in the order Ali would tackle them. Some owners carry the plan out themselves. Some hand parts of it to their office manager or to a marketing provider. Some come back a few months later to review progress or to work on the next decision, such as moving from pricing to service agreements.

There's no pressure to continue. A good session should leave you able to act on your own.

What sessions don't cover

Ali isn't a contractor, and he doesn't advise on equipment, installations, load calculations, permits or safety. Those belong with licensed trades and your provincial authority, linked on each region page. He also doesn't give legal, tax, accounting or securities advice. When a session reaches one of those areas, you'll be told who to talk to.
